((I'm putting this as AU because I plan on the characters I use in this RP to be a little different than usual... they'll be themselves, but have a different backstory.))
Dawn hadn't yet broken over the harbour. The barest hint of light had crept over the horizon, streaking the dark sky with wisps of colour. The colour stained the harbour twofold; the pastel hints playing over the lightly rippling ocean waters. Gulls cried to each other as they glided along the shore, pecking away at the sand for any tasteful debris that the tide had managed to drag to the shore overnight.
One gull trotted along the sand, weaving in and out as waves lapped up toward his feet. The water had brought in a nice pick of seaweed and driftwood and he contentedly sifted through the treasure trove, looking for shells that had been tugged in with the scraps. No such luck here. He scampered down the beach, sharp eyes focusing on a figure sprawled further down the coastline.
The gull sped up, taking off from the land for a brief moment to flutter toward the mysterious figure. He landed softly, running across the remaining sand to discover the mysterious thing was, in fact, a human. His light brown hair was plastered to his head, full of grit and sand and seaweed. His pale skin was no better off, equally speckled with sand and salt from the water. Miraculously, the glasses that sat on his nose had somehow not been lost in the sea. There were dark circles under his tired eyes, as if he hadn't slept for days. His breathing was ragged and extremely faint; almost indiscernible. The waterlogged clothes that hung over his slight form looked as though they'd seen better days.
The gull cocked his head curiously, pecking here and there around the man to discern if he had anything worth nicking (particularly things of a delicious and edible nature). Sadly, not a single mollusk had found purchase on the stupid time-waster of a human. However, upon closer inspection, it appeared that the human had something tightly gripped in one of his hands. Surely it was something delicious that the human was saving for himself! The gull gave a sharp peck at the fist, peering down at the enclosed object. He was deeply dismayed to discover the only thing the silly human had was a shiny thing. It was a very pretty shiny thing, but certainly not edible.
Suddenly, the human gave a sharp cough, salty spittle dripping down his lips. The gull gave a start and flew off further down the coast to continue his search for breakfast. The man gave no further indication of waking, remaining fitfully unconscious, his breathing still light and irregular.
